Construction and software development are two areas that have employed Project Managers for decades. However, many other areas employ them as well. NASA and Space-X both employ many PMs, but so do organizations as diverse as the Secret Service, IBM, and Halliburton. Since Project Management is, at its core, Start/Finish/Goal, a strong Project Management background is useful to anyone tasked with attaining a Goal in a timely manner.
